Tesla Model S Towing Capacity & Weight

The Tesla Model S is a luxury electric sedan that was first introduced in 2012. It is known for its impressive performance, range, and advanced technology. The Model S is available in several different versions, with different battery sizes and performance levels. The base model has a range of up to 402 miles on a single charge, while the top-of-the-line model can go even further on a single charge. The Model S also has a number of advanced features, including a large touchscreen display, a sleek and modern design, and autopilot capabilities.

Tesla did not offer a factory fitted towbar for the Model S between 2012 to 2020. It was only possible to have these retrofitted by third parties. So it was possible to get a approved trailer hitch with a trailer load of 1850kg. Only since the new Model S which is expected to appear in the plaid version from the end of 2022, has there been an option for a trailer hitch. This then offers a proud 1600kg trailer load.

Unfortunately, we could not find any information about the vertical load for the optionally available trailer hitch for the Model S Plaid at Tesla itself. Retrofitted solutions for older models, on the other hand, have a vertical load of 75 kg or up to 100 kg for bicycle transport.

Can The Tesla Model S Tow a Caravan

The Tesla Model S is an impressive vehicle that is suitable for almost everyone. However, the vehicle has a big issue in terms of towing. It does not come with a trailer hitch.

You can however get a detachable tow bar for Tesla Model S fitted afterwards. If you do this the towbar will be supplied together with the electrical kit and all the necessary components. The maximum trailer load is 1850kg braked and 750kg unbraked. The vertical load is 75kg and if the trailer hitch is used as a bicycle carrier, the maximum load capacity is 100kg. The weight of the trailer hitch itself is 22 kg with a removable ball head. No additional Tesla activations are required to use trailer coupling.

When it comes to the performance aspect, the Model S may be the best Tesla you can buy in 2023. So far, it's the only electric sedan that can hit 60mph in less than 2 seconds. The only other electric vehicle that beats it is the Rimac Nevera. Unfortunately, this car is a hypercar. So it's reasonable to call the Plaid version of the Model S the fastest electric sedan yet. The top speed of this vehicle is 200 mph with 1,020 hp. The Tesla Model S 2022 Plaid is Elon Musk's answer to the lack of the car's famous performance variant. The last time Tesla offered its most powerful trim level was in 2020.
