When you look at the Peugeot car range, there is a obvious gap between the 308 and 508. Just enough room to fit in the new Peugeot 408. The new 408 range offers drivers a well thought out family car that is located between the compact and middle class. The 408 is expected to be 4.69 meter long and to be available as a "Fastback" version in early 2023.

Under the bonnet there will be three different engine options. One petrol (130 hp) and two plug-in hybrids (180 and 225 hp). There are currently no plans for a diesel version. At 4.69 meters long, the 408 should offer plenty of space.

The new Peugeot 408 is aimed at a different market to the previous 407 model according to Linda Jackson who said "The new 408 was designed for car lovers who want to break away from the traditional and look for responsible driving fun". In terms of similar tow cars, the 408's main towing rivals in the C-segment are the Renault Arkana and the Citroen C5 X. But the 408 will also compete against the Skoda Octavia and the Ford Focus.

Is the Peugeot 408 A Good Tow Car?

The base engine is a 1.2-liter PureTech which produces 128 hp (130 hp). The new 408 Hybrid combines a 1.6-liter PureTech engine with an 81 kW (109 hp/110 hp) electric motor. But while the version of the petrol engine in the 408 Hybrid 225 before the electric support delivers 178 hp (180 hp), the Hybrid 180 only has 148 hp (150 hp). The 180 and 225 model designations refer to the total system output in metric horsepower, 178 hp and 222 hp, respectively. However whichever model you chooce you will have between 1350kg and 1400kg towing capacity so there is very little between them.
