Ford Edge Towing Capacity & Weight

The Edge is Ford's answer to large SUVs like the Hyundai Santa Fe, Kia Sorento and VW Touareg. Although it is built in Canada, it is only shipped to Europe with a two-liter diesel: the four-cylinder delivers 180 hp and 400 Nm as a manual gearbox, with a dual-clutch transmission as in the test car it delivers 210 hp and 450 Nm of torque.

On the chassis side of things, the Edge leaves nothing to be desired. When towing the majority of reviews say that it pulls the trailer or caravan confidently and safely in every situation and the steering allows for sensitive directional corrections. In the cockpit, Ford drivers know their way around as the controls follows a similar layou to other Ford cars.

The Edge offers a powerful diesel engine with high pulling power from low revs. Fast and predominantly smooth-shifting double-clutch transmission that is well matched to the beefy engine characteristics. Due to the low engine speed level, measured against the combination weight, lower consumption. All in all the Ford Edge is a good choice of tow car.

How much can the Ford Edge tow?

The Edge offers generous space on all seats. Plenty of headroom front and rear (despite the panoramic sunroof). Large storage compartment in center console. Voluminous and additionally easily expandable loading space. Overall the Edge is a good tow car. It has space, power, top traction and is safe to drive despite the towing capacity being low compared to some competitors. And when it comes to material quality and noise insulation, Ford still has room for improvement. Attention: The successor with 238 hp and 8-speed automatic will be available in 2023 and will likely have a much higher towing capacity.
