The Skoda Kodiaq is a mid-size SUV produced by the Czech car manufacturer Skoda Auto. It was first introduced in 2016 and is available in both front-wheel and four-wheel drive configurations. The Kodiaq is known for its spacious and comfortable interior, as well as its impressive off-road capabilities. It is also equipped with a range of advanced safety and convenience features, such as adaptive cruise control, blind spot detection, and automatic emergency braking. Overall, the Kodiaq is a versatile and capable SUV that offers a combination of comfort, practicality, and performance.

Several years have passed since the launch of Skoda's largest crossover. So it's about time for some changes. The latest version of the Kodiaq comes with some fairly typical facelift changes like revised styling and a few extra gadgets. When it comes to the powertrain, most things stay the same. The 2022 Skoda Kodiaq will continue with a wide engine offering that includes multiple petrol and diesel options. The actual offer depends on the market, but you can count on well-known 1.4 and 2.0 litre TSI engines with a power range between 125 and 220 hp. Of course, there are also famous TDI units from 150 to 240 hp.

We would expect to see a new plug-in hybrid version on offer in the not too distant future. Some sources are also suggesting that the most powerful vRS diesel model will be dropped from some regional markets and replaced with something petrol powered.

Anyone who opted for the "big bear" from Skoda will have had their reasons. But how strong is Skoda's large SUV really? We have looked at the exact data on Skoda Kodiaq towing capacity and would like to provide you with data on towing a trailer or caravan with the Skoda Kodiaq.

Technical data using the Kodiaq 2.0 DSG TDI 4 × 4 as an example:

For example, if you look at the data given for the 2.0 diesel with DSG gearbox:

- Empty weight: 1752-1952 kg
- permissible total weight: 2352 kg
- Payload: 475-675 kg
- Maximum vertical load: 100 kg
These details refer to the values WITHOUT the driver.

With the most powerful diesel in the Skoda Kodiaq, you can tow large and heavy trailers. Out of all Skoda models the trailer load is the highest with this model at 2300 kg. If you look at the smallest gasoline engine, the 1.4 TSI Kodiaq, you will see that a maximum trailer load of 1600kg is allowed.

According to Skoda’s technical data, the roof load is the same for all models, but not the vertical load. This moves between 75 kg and 100 kg, all 4 × 4 all-wheel drive models can withstand the increased vertical load of 100 kg.

Is The Skoda Kodiaq A Good Tow Car?

The Kodiaq stands out as a top contender among seven-seat SUVs. While we do have some minor concerns, we were left impressed overall. As a towing vehicle, it handled beautifully in still conditions and easily passed our lane-change and hill start tests. While it may not pack the same punch as its competitors, we doubt many drivers will find issue with the 2.0-litre diesel engine. In terms of fuel economy, we were more than satisfied for a vehicle of this size. It's worth noting, however, that it's not entirely immune to crosswinds and its noseweight limit is slightly lower than expected for an SUV of this magnitude.

Despite being a sizable SUV with ample space for seven passengers, the Å koda Kodiaq boasts a minimum kerbweight of 1795kg, making it relatively light compared to its counterparts. On the other hand, the equivalent Kia Sorento starts at 1953kg, offering more favorable matching ratios. It is worth noting that the Å koda has a legal towing limit of 2000kg, with a noseweight of only 80kg. Although lower than what one would typically expect from a big 4x4, it is crucial to avoid exceeding this limit when hauling a heavily loaded front locker caravan.

Our team matched the Å koda with the Bailey Unicorn Cabrera long-term test caravan, which weighed within a few kilos of the Kodiaq's 85% match figure. The 2.0-liter diesel engine performed admirably with a van that weighed slightly over 1500kg. At the test track, we clocked an impressive 12.5-second 30-60mph time, giving us the confidence to overtake slower traffic with ease.

On the road, we observed that the Kodiaq was able to maintain its momentum when going uphill, thanks to its seven-speed direct shift gearbox (DSG) that changed gears smoothly. We did notice that the gearbox was more responsive in Sport mode than in Drive, especially on hilly routes. During our testing in cold but still weather, the Kodiaq exhibited excellent stability. At a steady 60mph on the motorway, and even at 10mph faster on the test track, the Å koda tracked straight and true.

If you're in need of information on the towing capacity of a Skoda Kodiaq, we've got you covered. Towing capacity of the Skoda Kodiaq

In general, the Kodiaq has a towing capacity of between 2,000 and 2,500 kg (approximately 4,400 to 5,500 pounds).
